DESCRIPTION

Valea Roşie Lake is situated in the village of Valea Roşie. It is an important tourist destination located on the territory of the Calarasi County.
It is a naturally formed salt water lake, located in proximity to the Mitreni commune.
Hundreds of tourists visit it for treatment every year, due to its therapeutic properties. Its sulphurous, sodium, but also sapropelic sludge have significant therapeutic properties.

Aquatic therapy refers to treatments and exercises performed in water for relaxation, fitness, physical rehabilitation, and other therapeutic benefit. Various properties of water contribute to therapeutic effects, including the ability to use water for resistance in place of gravity or weights; thermal stability that permits maintenance of near-constant temperature; hydrostatic pressure that supports and stabilizes, and that influences heart and lung function; buoyancy that permits floatation and reduces the effects of gravity; and turbulence and wave propagation that allow gentle manipulation and movement.


Being a natural lake, its surface is fairly stretched - about 14 hectares. There are several species of fish in its basin. Among them are the Romanian carp, carassius and fitofagus. That is why many locals, as well as fishing enthusiasts, come to these places to enjoy their catch.
Located in the heart of Muntenia, the lake is of great interest to the locals, being one of the main tourist attractions of Calarasi County.
The Valea Rosie Lake is a protected area. Once they get there, tourists can stay at the Romanian-style guesthouses in the area.[1]

HISTORY

The Mitreni commune is located in the western part of the county, on the banks of the Arges River. It is crossed by the DN4 national road, which links Oltenita to Bucharest. t is composed of three villages: Clătești, Mitreni and Valea Roșie. The commune also crosses the Bucharest-Oltenita railway, which is served by the Valea Roşie passenger stop.
There is a spa resort in the Mitreni commune, the mud of which, is used for therapeutic purposes. In the Valea Roşie village, a village of the Mitreni commune, one can find the Adormirea Maicii Domnului Monastery.
Given the significant forest area of ​​the commune, there are opportunities for hunting.
You can also find the Ocolului Sivic lake in the Mitreni commune, which makes it possible to practice fishing.[2]
At the end of the 19th century, the commune was called Mitreni-Clăteşti, it was part of the Olteniţa net of Ilfov county and it comprised the villages Mitreni (or Mitreni-Fundeni), Clatesti and Luica (the latter, also called Luica-Mihai Voda, for different from another village with the same name), with a total of 1182 inhabitants, living in 260 houses and 12 huts. There were two churches in Mitreni and Clatesti, a mixed school and a steam thawing machine, and the main owner of agricultural land was Eforia of Civil Hospitals. In 1925, the Socec Yearbook records the commune with its present name and its current composition, plus the Jaianu hamlet, after the village of Luica-Mihai Voda was named Valea Rosie; it was part of the same net and had 1850 inhabitants. In 1931, the village of Jaianu was no longer recorded.
In 1950, the commune was transferred to the Oltenita district of Bucharest, and in 1968 it returned to the re-established Ilfov County. In 1981, a regional administrative reorganization led to the transfer of the commune to the Calarasi County. Until 1989, Mitreni was the suburban commune of Oltenita; from 1989 it became directly subordinated to the Calarasi County.[3]
